Kuala Lumpur, 21 July 2018
A total of 111 companies were announced as winners of the Golden Bull Award 2018 as the award celebrates its 15th anniversary. The award, organised by Business Media International and Singapore Press Holding’s unit Sphere Exhibits, was first held in 2003.
Baker Tilly Malaysa is the award’s official auditor, while financial data is provided by CTOS. Sponsors include Malaysia Airlines and Firefly.
Dato’ William Ng, organising chairman of the Golden Bull Award says, “the market and economic environment have changed over the past 15 years. Today’s market is much more complex and multi-faceted than it was in 2003. This makes entrepreneurship, and running a business, far more challenging than it was 15 years ago”.
“Many Malaysian companies are still trapped in the mindset of the past decade; where numbers and practices are shrouded in secrecy to stop others from emulating them. However, in today’s business environment, there are no more trade secrets. Even the best-kept food recipes are publicly available on the internet. As such, our competitive advantage as a business can no longer be our know-how. The only way we can fail-proof our business is to be good in planning, and be even better in executing”, says Ng.
A total of 3 different categories were open for competition including Emerging SMEs, Outstanding SMEs and Super Golden Bull, categorised respectively according to annual turnover. A record breaking 816 nominees participated in total with 111 enterprises claiming the title of winners.
Also present at the award presentation was Koay Chiew Guan, president of Small and Medium Enterprises Association of Malaysia, Chua Wee Phong, executive vice president of Singapore Press Holdings, Dennis Martin, group CEO of CTOS, Dato’ Lock Peng Kuan, senior partner of Baker Tilly Malaysia and Ignatius Ong, group chief revenue officer of Malaysia Airlines cum CEO of Firefly.
